“I’m thrilled to finally get started,” remarked Niemeyer. “After experiencing an emotional end to the season and promotion with Preußen Münster, I’m really looking forward to my new, exciting role and working alongside Clemens and the team. After spending time here as a player, I can hardly wait to get to know the club better off the pitch.”

Clemens Fritz is equally delighted with the appointment of Niemeyer as his successor. “We can use the weeks before pre-season training begins to allow Peter the best possible start to his time at Werder,” explained the 43-year-old. “He will take care of any issues surrounding the first team, maintaining close contact with the players, staff, and coaches, while making decisions and taking responsibility for this area of the club. I’m thrilled that we can now begin working together.”

Niemeyer represented Werder, Hertha BSC, Darmstadt 98 and Twente during his playing career, appearing 146 times in the Bundesliga, 106 times in the Eredivisie and 57 times in the 2. Bundesliga, scoring 17 goals in total.
