“Keep going the way we are”

Ole Werner points to something.

The two goals from Hoffenheim shortly after half time were a key topic that Ole Werner and his team worked on intensively during the week; hopefully, the results of this work with follow on Saturday. However, the 34-year-old doesn’t just want to look in the “rear-view mirror” at the previous game, but also turn his attention to the upcoming game. “We don’t want to pretend there are no problems, but we also don’t want to make them bigger than they are. We will keep going the way we are, recognising weaknesses and then working working on the solutions.”

Werner described the week of training in positive terms overall. He highlighted that the team had to work hard to make improvement to reach their goals, but they have done this with a lot of energy, which is a positive sign. Werner suggested that the opportunities are there for his team. “We can reap the rewards for the work that we have achieved this season and have to use our chances during game better in order to pick up the points we need.”

Ole Werner knows about Mainz’s strengths, particularly in winning challenges, set pieces and playing physically. However, his team is not going to hide from this, and will instead take on the physical challenge posed by a game against Mainz. Werner suggested that SVW also need to bring their own strengths into the game.
