“I am very pleased with our pre-season so far”

The topic that generated the most interest was the formation that the Green-Whites had played. For the first time, Ole Werner set up his side with three strikers instead of two, reverting to a double pivot in midfield. “This formation can open up different spaces for us, the way that our opponent’s backline behave is slight different,” explained Werner, whose team played two opponents that play different systems. “We have a lot of video material and clips to watch back, for the first time it was pretty good.”

SVW had great conditions in Zillertal to put in the hard yards over ten days ahead of the upcoming Bundesliga season. After almost four weeks of pre-season, the head coach is pleased with the situation at this point. “We have got the players up to a good level physically, which is the most important thing at the point in time,” said Werner, whose mood was only dampened by an injury to Marco Friedl. “Otherwise, it was important to me to get the team tactics across to the team and now we can dedicate ourselves to the things that are decisive in winning games.”

The team will put the final touches on their preparations in the coming week with two further friendlies against RC Strasbourg (5/8) and Viktoria Köln (12/8) ahead of their first competitive game. “The key areas to work on for us now are playing in the final third and defending the penalty area, where we still have potential to improve,” said Werner. “I am very pleased with our pre-season so far, now we need some freshness to work on these themes and on our goals.”
