Substitutes: Adey, Nankishi
Hard-fought first half
FIRST-HALF HIGHLIGHTS:

38th minute: Baptiste Santamaría controls the ball inside the Werder penalty box, but Milos Veljkovic is marking him closely. Stage is then able to poke the ball away from danger.
41st minute: Werder look to build up play from the back. Schmid is able to find some space on the right wing before cutting the ball back to Mitchell Weiser. His shot looks to be heading for the top left corner, but only narrowly sails over the bar.
Early goal for the hosts
SECOND-HALF HIGHLIGHTS:
48th minute: Stade Rennais take advantage of an error in the build-up by Werder to open the scoring. Ludovic Blas wins possession and delivers a cross to Bourigeaud, who only needs to stick out his foot to place the ball past Zetterer.
54th minute: Another dangerous attack from the hosts, as Lorenz Assignon gets a shot off from the edge of the penalty box. The ball takes a deflection, but Zetterer is able to recover and clear it for a corner.
63rd minute: The Green-Whites are able to regain their footing after the earlier setback. Stage picks out Agu as he makes a run down the wing, before he lays it off to Schmid. The Austrian is unfortunate to narrowly miss the target.
66th minute: The chances keep coming for Werder, as Schmid delivers a long ball to Mitchell Weiser. His attempt from range also sails just wide of the target.
81st minute: Weiser cuts the ball back to Ducksch on the right side of the box, as he also places his attempt high and wide.
90th minute +4: Full time. Werder suffer a narrow 1-0 defeat in their second friendly of the day.
Summary: The second match against Stade Rennais was highlighted by several intense tackles. After the first half saw only a few chances created by both sides, the hosts were able to take the lead almost immediately after the restart. The Green-Whites were able to recover and create chances for themselves in the time remaining, but lacked the precision to finish them. Next up, the competitive season will get underway with the first round of the DFB-Pokal, as Werder have been drawn away against Energie Cottbus (19th August).
