“A massive weight off our shoulders”

The team in a huddle

Head coach Ole Werner: “I’m very happy with the result. We’ve worked hard to earn those moments that went our way today. The table is close, and it will stay that way. We have to continue to work on our weaknesses, which is definitely easier on the back of a win. Nevertheless, we will have to start from scratch in Wolfsburg.”

Milos Veljkovic: “It might not have been a decisive game in the season, but we wanted to make up for our poor start and repay the fans for their continuous support, which they provide even through difficult times. The key was that we did better in possession than we have done in the past few weeks, and our defensive performance as a team was good. As a defender, the clean sheet gives me confidence.”

Leonardo Bittencourt: “That was a mature performance and one I’m very happy with. We knew that Union are a really strong side and would demand a lot from us. I felt as though we worked well during the week and it could only end positively if produced that on the pitch, which is what we did.”

Marvin Ducksch: “It feels good because we defended really well again. We wanted to play better attacking football after having failed to utilise a number of chances over the past few weeks. The win is certainly a fair result. I saw the space for my goal and Milos timed it perfectly. We practise that exact scenario in training and it worked out on the pitch today.”

Michael Zetterer: “We only have to look at the table to see just how important this win is for the team’s morale. We needed the first ten minutes to get into the game, then we showed what we’re capable of. I had the feeling that we were really sharp on the pitch, and we translated that into goals. Getting a clean sheet at home is the best possible outcome for a goalkeeper.”

Romano Schmid: “It’s a massive weight off our shoulders. We’ve never played as well at home in my entire time at the club as we are right now. The match against Hoffenheim was spectacular, and we produced that again today. I always look forward to our home games, which shows through in the way that we play football.”
