“A deserved draw”

Ole Werner: “We could have been more clinical. We did well to come back during the second half. Based on our performance, I was able to see elements of what defines us as a team. We were there for each other and reacted well after both goals that we conceded in the first half. As a result, I’m able to live with the point. If we’d been more clinical in the final third, then we could have managed to take all three points today.”

Marco Friedl: “We got off to a decent start. Our opponents challenged us just like we had expected them to. We struggled to defend their runs in behind the defence and their long balls during the first half. We virtually helped them score in the first half – we just made too many mistakes as a team. We were sitting there at half time and didn’t really understand why we were behind, because we were playing well when in possession. We then told ourselves that we wanted to start strong into the second half and knew that we would be able to turn it around if we managed to play our game. Our performance in the second half was good. Overall, it’s a deserved result.”

Mitchell Weiser: “It’s good that we didn’t lose our first away game of the season, but we could have done better. We wanted to win. It’s a tough result to take, because I feel like we gave up the lead too easily in the first half. We were then stuck chasing them from then on, but at least we were able to equalise.”

Marvin Ducksch: “It was a decent first half, if you disregard the final third. We played well up until that area of the pitch. We were able to find space for ourselves just like we wanted to. But, we were lacking the penultimate or final pass. During the break, we addressed all the right things: to keep trying, as the chances would come. That’s exactly what happened and we deservedly managed to equalise. In the end, we had to defend several long balls and if I’d have been able to convert my one-on-one, then we would have gone home as the winners.”

Felix Agu: “We started well into the game and then took a deserved lead before conceding twice. The first was a stunner out of nowhere. The second goal, we maybe could have been better positioned to defend on the counter. We then started well after the break, scored the equaliser and then it turned into a bit of a back and forth match. Overall, we can be pretty satisfied with the way in which we played.”
