1. FC Union Berlin have made an important deadline day move with the signing of SC Paderborn attacker Sven Michel.
Michel, who is currently the top scorer (scorer points) in the 2.Bundesliga, makes the switch to Köpenick following five-and-a-half years with Paderborn. With 14 goals and 7 assists, the 31-year-old has shown he can contribute both goals and assists from his forward position. Under the management of former Union striker Steffen Baumgart, Michel has helped fire Paderborn from 3.Liga to Bundesliga and continued his form in recent seasons in the second tier.
“The transfer to Union is a massive chance for me,” said Sven Michel on his arrival. “The talks with Oliver Ruhnert and coach Urs Fischer also convinced me that they are working with a concrete plan here. That is important to me and I’m convinced that I can help this team.”
“Sven is a real reinforcement with his scoring strengths and creativity, so we have had our eye on him for some time,” added Oliver Ruhnert, 1. FC Union Berlin’s Managing Director for Professional Football. “The numbers speak for themselves, even in the 2nd Bundesliga, 21 scorer points in 19 games are exceptional. In addition, he is fully in rhythm and can help us immediately.”
