Four of Union’s Women on International Duty

Four players from 1. FC Union Berlin’s women’s team have been called up for international duty in October, and will all be in demand in the European Championship qualifier, first round play-offs. To qualify for the finals in Switzerland, countries must survive two play-off rounds.

The nominees

Fatma Sakar has been nominated for the Turkish national team for the second time and could make her international debut against Ukraine. The Turks qualified for the play-offs as runners-up in League B, Group 1, in a group that also included Switzerland, Hungary and Azerbaijan. Ukraine also finished second in League B. In Group 4. Greek national team coach Alexandros Katikaridis will likely again be relying on Athanasia Moraitou and Eleni Markou. Korina Janez has received another call up for the Slovenian national team. The midfielder will face Austria with the ‘Zmajceki’. Slovenia have so far had a perfect European Championship qualification campaign, dominating League C, Group 2 with six wins in six, with a goal difference of 26:0. They beat Latvia, North Macedonia and the Republic of Moldova. Austria finished third in League A, group 4, behind Iceland and Germany, but ahead of Poland. In the second play-off round, the winner will face Romania or Poland.
