VfB head coach Sebastian Hoeneß: “We actually played well but weren’t clinical enough to win the game. However, we showed unbelievable character and came very close to salvaging a draw and claiming a point, but that’s how cruel football can be. Even though our third goal didn’t count, I want to highlight that the team never gave up at any point and kept believing in the comeback. That’s the attitude we have to maintain.”
Nick Woltemade: “It’s very painful – we deserved [to rescue a point]. We played really well for 35 to 40 minutes and had several chances to take the lead, but ended up 3-0 down. That was really tough, but the way we fought back as a team was remarkable and impressive. We kept believing, and our fans kept believing and supporting us. That togetherness made our recovery possible.”
Ermedin Demirovic: “I still can’t believe it. We were 3-0 down and losing a game we actually had under control for long periods. We had chance after chance. I had a penalty [saved] and struck the bar twice. It was unbelievable today. It’s a very empty feeling. If we want to focus on the positives, it’s the spirit of the team and a club that keeps showing what it’s all about, week after week.”
