A VfB delegation previously organised various workshops as well as climate protection and nature conservation projects during a visit to the east African country in April 2023. The second ‘VfB Family Fun Day’ was held at Dr. Krapf Primary School in Nairobi with the aim of addressing similar issues. On this occasion, the club’s projects included a football camp for 120 children, which was organised in cooperation with Kenya’s most-capped international Musa Otieno from the ‘Kick off for Hope’ charity and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

The VfB Foundation has adopted a long-term approach with regards to its support in Kenya. The aim is to make it easier for disadvantaged families and children to take part in sport, and to promote exercise among children by honing their football skills. The ‘VfB Family Fun Day’ also included lessons on life skills, as well as a meet and greet with Otieno to round off the event.

Although the facilities in Nairobi are completely different to those we are accustomed to in Germany, the kids’ enjoyment at the football camp was clear to everyone involved. VfB will continue to work alongside its partners to create a safe environment for children and families through football camps, while raising further awareness of sporting and environmental issues.
