After recovering from a broken foot, Thomas Kastanaras has been back on the training pitch for about a week now. Alongside Maxi Mittelstädt, who is out with a ligament tear, the 20-year-old used Wednesday’s session to continue working towards returning to full team training. “Training is never easy with Martin [Franz], but that’s good,” Kastanaras told VfB-TV. “We need to get fit in order to be back with the team, and we’re on the right track.”

The VfB attacker has already regained confidence in his foot, and is now working with and without the ball out on the training pitch. “During my rehabilitation, we initially focused on making sure that the foot is stable,” Kastanaras said. “On the training pitch it’s now about making sure my foot gets used to wearing a boot on the grass again. I’m really happy to be back. At the moment I’m still working on speed, I’m doing a lot of work with the ball and some fast-paced runs. That’s how I’ll get my fitness back.”

A number of VfB fans watched the session in Cannstatt despite the rain, and Kastanaras was grateful for the support: “A big thank you to all the fans. We’re always happy when a lot of them come to see us.”
