VfB head coach Sebastian Hoeneß: “We didn’t have a choice but to make wholesale changes for this game, for reasons already known. The way the boys worked and imposed themselves on the pitch was outstanding. The victory today is a credit to the whole team. We’re delighted to have gone unbeaten at home for a full year. That shows how much the boys enjoy playing here, and how much the fans’ support carries us. Our confidence grows with every home win.”

Fabian Bredlow: “It was a successful evening all round. It was fantastic for me to be back on the pitch, playing with the team and celebrating the win. It was important for me to justify the coach’s faith in me today.”

Chris Führich: “I’m really pleased that I was able to help the team with my goal, and I hope it’s something I can build on. Cup battles are always tough. Our aim was to get to the next round. We were braced for a hard-fought game. At the end of the day, we won and are in the next round – that’s all that counts.”
