Niklas Tauer has moved to FC Schalke 04 until the end of the 2023/24 season. The 21-year-old defender, who joined Mainz’s youth system in 2012, has made four competitive appearances for the Zerofivers this season. The loan has no buy-option.
“It is important for Niklas at this stage in his development to play regularly and to gain experience on the pitch. Accordingly, it was also his wish to make a move and be able to look for the opportunity to play elsewhere. Schalke 04 offers him a good perspective of playing at the highest level. We wish Niklas all the best for his time in Gelsenkirchen,” said Christian Heidel, Mainz board member for sports and communications.
