Following on from Eniss Shabani, Ben Bobzien, Nelson Weiper and Philipp Schulz,  Brajan Gruda is yet another talent from the Mainz 05 youth set-up to have signed a long-term professional contract in the last twelve months. The 18-year-old Germany U19s international is currently making a great impression in the Under 19 Bundesliga with his impressive goals tally. The youngster has scored eleven goals in 23 games for the Mainz U19s and also has four assists to his name. Gruda has risen through the ranks of the Germany youth teams and will compete in the Four Nations tournament with the Germany U19s, which begins on Wednesday 23rd November. He was just 14 years old when he came into the Mainz youth system.

“Brajan has played his way into the foreground with some great performances for the U19s and for the Germany youth teams. It is for this reason that he has already trained with the first team on a number of occasions. He is immensely talented and he has a really cool head on his shoulders. He has everything he needs in order to take the next steps towards the Bundesliga. We will support him closely and gradually introduce him to the higher intensity,” explained sporting director Martin Schmidt.

Gruda signed his first professional contract on Thursday evening.

“Since he arrived in our U15s, Brajan has worked really hard and has been very focussed on taking the next steps towards a professional career. He has developed superbly well in our youth system and he more than deserves his contract. If Brajan keeps doing what he’s doing then the door to the Bundesliga is open for him. He is yet another example of the successful work that we carry out in our youth set-up,” said Volker Kersting, the director of the Mainz youth academy.
