“We’ve played in some beautiful kits in my many years at TSG, but one in particular stands out for me. The Africa shirt we wore against VfL Bochum almost two years ago is my absolute favourite. On the one hand, because I think it’s an extremely successful design in itself – and the colours are extraordinary.
On the other hand, the shirt also carries great emotional significance for me and is not just a piece of fabric. The shirt brings together my African roots and my German homeland. I was proud to play in this jersey. We might have unluckily lost the game against Bochum 2-1 that day, but it was a special experience for me. The pattern reminds me of my father’s home country, Nigeria, and I’m proud that TSG took a stand for Africa with that shirt and the matchday. I think the commitment shown by the club, which featured the logo of sustainable clothing brand umoja on the shirt in this match, is outstanding. The shirt has been given pride of place in my home.”
