The Kyiv-born tactician is a true Dynamo legend. Shovkovskyi started playing for the club at youth level and kept goal for the capital outfit from 1993 to 2017, becoming Dynamo’s record appearance-maker in the process. After a spell as technical and assistant coach with the Ukrainian national team between 2018 and 2021, he has been back at Dynamo in the head coach role since December 2023.

Vanat is also a Dynamo youth product; the striker joined the academy in 2015. He finished as top scorer in the Ukrainian league last season and was part of the Ukraine national team squad at UEFA EURO 2024.

Dynamo’s long-serving coach Valeriy Lobanovskyi is not only regarded as the inventor of the back four, but also as a pioneer for football generally. He is considered to be the first person to incorporate scientific theories and statistics into his work. This led to success, with Dynamo winning the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1975 and 1986. The outstanding coach died in 2002 at the age of just 63.
