Oliver Baumann: “We’re of course disappointed, especially after a good first half. But we didn’t manage to maintain control in the second half and create goalscoring chances. So a draw is a fair result. Augsburg were actually closer to the lucky punch at the end, we needed to keep to our structure better there. We’re deeply saddened and shocked by what happened in the stands. I’ve never experienced such a loud detonation. It’s our job to continue playing afterwards, but it’s not so easy. We’ve been in contact with the active fan scene, who have assured us that it didn’t come from them. We wish the injured persons a speedy recovery and hope that nothing more serious has happened.”
Wout Weghorst: “We completely controlled the game in the first half, were totally superior and played a very good game. We simply could not score more goals and increase the gap. Augsburg then re-emerged from the break full of energy and deservedly equalised.”
Pellegrino Matarazzo: “The prevailing feeling for us today is disappointment. Both due to the firecracker explosion – I wish all those affected a speedy recovery – and due to the result. We were very dominant in the first half and deserved to take the lead. Shortly after the break, we then let in an unnecessary goal which three of our players failed to defend. We lost our way as a result and were no longer in control. We didn’t show enough penetration to get three points here.”
Jess Thorup (FC Augsburg coach): “They were two different halves for me. We weren’t on the pitch in the first half, Hoffenheim played very well and we were always a step behind. We made a few adjustments at half-time and tweaked the system, then things worked better. We were then better both with and without the ball. When I look at our chances, we could have also gotten the three points.”
TSG Managing Director Alexander Rosen on the firecracker explosion: “It was madness which cannot be put into words. A big apology from TSG first of all, because it can be assumed that the firecracker was thrown from our corner. Thankfully there are apparently no serious injuries as it stands. I would like to expressly thank the refereeing team, the management at FC Augsburg and all the parties involved. Everyone reacted calmly in a catastrophic situation and contributed to the game being able to finish by behaving intelligently and making smart decisions.”
