Germany out of U21 EUROS

The Germany U21 national side, including Márton Dárdai and Jessic Ngankam, had to take a 2-0 defeat against England in their last group game, which meant they were eliminated from the U21 European Championship in Georgia and Romania. Dárdai made his first appearance in the tournament and played the full 90 minutes. Antonio Di Salvo’s side were on the back foot early on after goals from Cameron Archer (4’) and Harvey Elliot (21’). In the second half, the Germany coach tried to put the strong England team under pressure with fresh attacking options, but the substitution of Jessic Ngankam (67’) couldn’t turn the tide.

After the game and just one point from three group games, the head coach was deflated about their early elimination. “We all imagined it going differently. We didn’t start well in the tournament, everything went our way against Israel with two penalties, and the defeat against the Czech Republic was hard to take. Today’s loss was absolutely deserved, England were a class above us,” said the 44-year-old. The international games for Hertha’s players have now ended.
