On Friday morning, even before the first training session has taken place in Schruns, 24 SC Freiburg players and staff will pose for a team photo in front of the apline backdrop. Following this, the entire squad will train together for the first time this pre-season. After the players who were away on international duty returned at the start of the week, the U21 international players will also be back in action for the start of the camp. Only Noah Weißhaupt, who is set to arrive in Schruns on Monday after an eardrum operation, won’t be there from the start. Fabian Rüdlin, Maximilian Breunig, Julian Stark, Oskar Wiklöf and Mika Baur from the U23s will also be there to train with the first team.
The nine days in Schruns are familiar territory for much of the team. This will be the 17th year in a row that SCF will prepare for the new season in this part of Austria. Christian Günter is of course a player who has completed many a session in Schruns, but it will be a slightly different experience for the captain this year. The 30-year-old did travel to Austria with the team after he underwent surgery on his broken arm on Saturday evening but rehabilitation training will be on the agenda for the stalwart.
After arriving in Schruns, Streich’s men completed a short bike ride in order to loosen up after the long bus journey. The players will cycle from the hotel to the training ground on a daily basis. Spectators will be able to watch the players train from the stands. Fans also have Saturday’s (22nd July, 14:00 CEST) friendly against VfL Wolfsburg in Zams to look forward to, which will be streamed live on our website.
