16 teams were drawn out the hat on Monday at midday for the play-off round of the UEFA Europa League. The eight third-placed teams from the Champions League were each drawn against one of the second-placed sides from the Europa League. As the only German side in the play-offs, SC Freiburg could have come up against any of the eight possible teams.
SCF are set to face RC Lens, one of four French clubs taking part in the play-off round in the Europa League. Lens are currently seventh in Ligue 1 and qualified for the Champions League last season after finishing in second position. Under Franck Haise, who has been coaching the side since 2020, Lens finished third with eight points from six games in a group with Arsenal, PSV and Sevilla FC.
The play-offs will take place on 15th and 22nd February, with SC set to travel to Lens for the first leg of the tie.
