Patrick Baier has been a member of the first-team coaching staff since 2009, and is currently the longest-serving assistant coach in the Bundesliga. His association to the club stretches back to 1999, when he became an academy coach. The UEFA Pro Licence holder is primarily responsible for opposition analysis at Freiburg.

“I want to take step aside on my own terms to look at football from a different perspective. After 25 years in an incredibly hectic business without having a chance to reflect, it’s time for me to take a break,” says Baier. “It’s certainly difficult to leave such a privileged position and I feel a great sense of gratitude to have been part of our club’s development.”

SCF sporting director Jochen Saier said of Baier: “Through his various roles over the past 25 years, Patrick has made a considerable contribution to SC Freiburg’s sporting development, and has also done some very valuable work as assistant coach to the first team. We regret his decision to move onto pastures new at the end of the season, but obviously we respect his wishes. Patrick informed us about his decision well in advance to give us time to make decisions on new personnel. Until then, we’re happy that Patrick, with all his expertise and diligence, will continue to contribute to making this a successful season for the team.”
