Röhl joined SC Freiburg in August 2022 from FC Ingolstadt 04 and went on to finish runners-up in the 3. Liga in his debut season with the club’s U23s. He made his Bundesliga debut that same season away at Borussia Mönchengladbach on matchday 23. The 22-year-old has since gone on to feature in 40 competitive matches across the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and UEFA Europa League. Röhl is also currently a member of the Germany U21 side.

He has been able to demonstrate his qualities as a footballer and his intelligence as a player in various positions and is an important part of our team,” said board member for sport Jochen Saier. “Merlin has dedicated a lot of time and hard work each and every day to developing in various areas. It’s a great fit for us and we’re delighted to be continuing to work together.”

The details of the contract extension will remain undisclosed.
