Huth will become the third goalkeeper in SC’s squad, alongside Noah Atubolu and Florian Müller.

Huth joined SC Paderborn in 2019/20 and was the the longest-serving member of their first-team squad. He featured in six Bundesliga and 80 Bundesliga 2 games for the side, as well as five appearances in the DFB-Pokal. He was their first-choice goalkeeper in both 2021/22 and 2022/23, before being awarded the captain’s armband in 2023/24.

The Bad Kreuznach native got his start in the 1. FSV Mainz 05 academy, where he would spend the first 12 years of his career. Huth made his way through the ranks of the 05ers youth set-up, making 48 appearances for their reserves in the 3. Liga and featuring in seven Bundesliga games and one Europa League match for the FSV first team. He was part of the Germany side that won the silver medal at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio. Huth spent the 2017/18 season on loan at Sparta Rotterdam, running out 14 times for the side in the Eredivisie.

“SC Freiburg have an excellent reputation in German professional football for being a well-run club that seeks to develop players, in addition to having recently moved into a new stadium and having enjoyed success in the Bundesliga, Europa League and DFB-Pokal,” said Huth. “After spending five years in Paderborn, predominantly in the second division, I’m excited to be part of a Bundesliga side again. I’m looking forward to meeting my new teammates and all the members of the goalkeeping team and to training alongside them at the highest level on a daily basis.”

“Jannik is a modern goalkeeper who exemplifies a style of goalkeeping that fits to SC Freiburg. He also brings a lot of experience to the table that can be of benefit to our goalkeeping team,” said SC sporting director Klemens Hartenbach. “It’s not easy to find a talented individual that is willing to accept the likelihood of perhaps not seeing much playing time. That’s why we’re pleased to have found a goalkeeper like Jannik who is prepared to fully identify himself with this role.”
