Maximilian Philipp and Benjamin Uphoff were particularly happy, as they both returned to full training after being sidelined with injuries recently. Captain Christian Günter, Kofi Kyereh, Philipp Leinhart, Kenneth Schmidt and Max Rosenfelder missed today’s session as they worked on their comebacks from their respective injuries. Ritsu Doan was also absent, as he is in Japan’s squad for the upcoming Asian Cup, while Lucas Höler was ill. Mika Baur, Ryan Johansson and Fabian Rüdlin from SCF’s U23 side all took part in today’s training session.
Freiburg’s only friendly game before the Bundesliga restarts will follow their first week of training in 2024. On Saturday, SCF travel to take on Eintracht Frankfurt at 13:00 CET. The match will be played behind closed doors.
“We’ve got to work hard over the next few days so we can get off to a good start to the second half of the season,” said Grifo, who looked ahead to the future. “There’s a lot of anticipation. We’re in a pretty good position having picked up 24 points already. We also want to win our last game from the first half of the season.” By this, Grifo means their 17th game of the campaign against Union Berlin, which will be played on 13th January.
SCF will hold a public training session at the Europa-Park Stadion at 10:00 CET on Thursday.
