Games against Hannover and Gornik Zabrze
Win and a defeat to start pre-season
1. FC Köln have started into pre-season and began with a loss and win in Sankt Johann, Austria.
Defeat to Hannover
The first game saw Steffen Baumgart’s side take on Hannover 96, who are just two weeks away from the start of the 2. Bundesliga season. Two new signings start the game as Jacob Christensen and Luca Waldschmidt got their first run-out in FC colours. It also so happened to be the debut of FC’s new away strip.
There would be just one goal in the 45-minute match, as Cedric Teuchert pounced on a mistake at the back to fire past Marvin Schwäbe. Waldschmidt almost levelled late on after a fine move involving Damion Downs. Unfortunately for FC, he was unable to turn the ball home after rounding Ron-Robert Zieler.
1. FC Köln vs Hannover 96 (4-2-3-1): Schwäbe – Wäschenbach, Kilian, Chabot, Pedersen – Kujovic, Christensen – Ljubicic, Waldschmidt, Maina – Downs.

A win against Poldi and Pawel
The second fixture of the day followed 15 minutes after the match against Hannover. Philipp Pentke, training with FC to stay fit, started in goal with Florian Kainz starting on his return from international duty. Things got off to the perfect start as Sargis Adamyan found the top corner from 12 yards after a surging run and clever cutback from Max Finkgräfe.
Before the end, however, Pawel Olkowski headed home and looked to have earned a share of the spoils for the Polish side. FC wanted to end on a high and did just that. Timo Hübers headed home a Florian Kainz corner before the impressive Sargis Adamyan moved forward and teed up Davie Selke to slam home a third as the final whistle went.
