1. FC Köln ended their time in Maria Alm, Austria with a 1:1 draw against RCD Mallorca. The Spanish side took the lead through Omar Mascarell just before the break. Mathias Olesen was able to level before the break with a fine strike from the edge of the area.

Steffen Baumgart used the final game of the pre-season trip to Austria to give all players 45 minutes on the pitch. Only Marvin Schwäbe played the full 90 minutes. Mallorca had the first good chance of the game as Vedat Muriqi fired just wide from a tempting Manu Morlanes cross towards the back post.

The La Liga outfit were more active and were providing problems for FC. While Muriqi headed wide of the mark after another good delivery, it would prove to be third time lucky for the Spaniards. Daniel Rodriguez’s free-kick was perfectly flighted for Omar Mascarell to rise highest and flick a header into the top corner from eight yards out.

After the restart, Maximilian Schmid immediately fired into the side-netting as an early sign of intent. FC pushed as Mallorca were this time on the back foot. A set-piece eventually brought about the equaliser. Denis Huseinbasic’s delivery was only cleared as far as Mathias Olesen on the edge of the area, and he slammed home with aplomb to level the scores.

Both teams had chances to secure the win late on. A fine strike from distance from Emin Kujovic stung the hands of Dominik Greif. Mallorca had a great opportunity to seal the win at the death, only for Marvin Schwäbe to produce a superb reaction stop from close range. FC are next in action on Friday 28th July against Fortuna Köln in Südstadion. Kick-off is at 18:30 CEST.
