It will be fourth against fifth when Eintracht host Borussia Dortmund on Bundesliga Matchday 11 at Deutsche Bank Park on Saturday at 18:30 CEST. The visitors have 19 points on the board so far, one fewer than the Eagles, while league leaders Union Berlin have 23. As such, whoever wins will cement their place towards the top of the standings with the FIFA World Cup fast approaching, while the losing side will be left playing catch-up over the coming weeks.

Eintracht will go into the game full of confidence following back-to-back Bundesliga victories over Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Borussia Mönchengladbach, as well as Wednesday’s maiden UEFA Champions League home win over Olympique de Marseille. “We’ve got a good mix of footballing quality and pace,” said Eintracht board member for sport Markus Krösche after that game.

Glasner relying on team spirit

Having scored his first-ever Champions League goal, Randal Kolo Muani is now eager to build on his strong performances so far this season. Eintracht’s top scorer provided a sixth assist in just his 10th Bundesliga outing last weekend, meaning that he has set up more goals than any other player in Germany’s top flight in 2022/23.

That puts him among some esteemed company, as only two players have needed fewer games to reach six assists since detailed statistics began: Bayern Munich’s Douglas Costa (nine matches) and Werder Bremen’s Diego (seven).

While the team’s attacking department is on fire at the moment, Oliver Glasner continues to have some concerns at the back, with in-form Christopher Lenz missing out with a thigh injury.

Nevertheless, the head coach has been impressed with the way his players have compensated for the absentees of late, as well as how his defenders have adapted to constantly having to shift positions and operate in unfamiliar roles, saying: “the commitment and passion with which the boys support each other is incredible”. That will no doubt be the case once more against Dortmund on Saturday evening.
