After the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal, the UEFA Champions League will start up again in September too. BVB were drawn in a group with Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan and Newcastle United on Thursday evening. The women’s handballers will also be back in action and will start the Bundesliga season against Oldenburg.

Friday 1 September (20:30 CET): BVB vs. 1. FC Heidenheim
September will get under way with a home game. BVB will kick off Matchday 3 of the Bundesliga season against 1. FC Heidenheim this Friday evening. It will be the first meeting between the first team and the Bundesliga newcomers. Only the U23s have previously taken on Heidenheim, whose squad includes three former Borussia players, in the 3. Liga: Lennard Maloney, Patrick Mainka and Jan-Niklas Beste will be returning to Dortmund for the game.

Saturday 9 September (19:00 CET): Women’s handball team vs. VfL Oldenburg
It has been a long pre-season and an even longer competitive break for the Borussia Dortmund women’s handball team. The last time the women’s handballers were on the court was at the end of May, with the pre-season preparations then starting in July. New captain Alicia Stolle and her team-mates will finally get the new Bundesliga season under way with a home game against VfL Oldenburg on 09 September. The game will be played at Halle Wellinghofen at 19:00 CET. Tickets for the game are available here.

Saturday 16 September (15:30 CET): SC Freiburg vs. BVB
After the international break, the BVB first team will resume their campaign away to SC Freiburg. The Black & Yellows won 3-1 in the Breisgau last season thanks to a frenetic final phase, with Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, Youssoufa Moukoko and Marius Wolf scoring three goals in the last quarter of an hour. Freiburg have started this season with wins against Hoffenheim and Bremen.

Tuesday 19/Wednesday 20 September (21:00 CET): UEFA Champions League
The venue and opponents are not yet confirmed, but it is set in stone that the first matchday of the new Champions League season will take place on 19 and 20 September. BVB will be up against Paris Saint-Germain, AC Milan and Newcastle United in Group F. UEFA want to publish the fixture calendar by Saturday lunchtime at the latest. The advance sale for BVB’s first home game will start – regardless of the match schedule – on Tuesday 5 September.

Saturday 23 September (15:30 CET): BVB vs. VfL Wolfsburg
BVB’s first English week of the season will end with a home match against Wolfsburg. In both of the last two meetings at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK, the Black & Yellows have scored six goals against the Wolves. The most recent clash took place in May last year, when Karim Adeyemi (2), Jude Bellingham (2), Sebastien Haller and Donyell Malen netted in a 6-0 victory.

Friday 29 September (20:30 CET): TSG 1899 Hoffenheim vs. BVB
September will draw to an end with an away game in Sinsheim. BVB will again kick off the round of matches on a Friday evening, with the clash away to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim taking place on Bundesliga Matchday 6. The last three visits to the Kraichgau have ended in victory, with Julian Brandt scoring in a 1-0 win in February.
