Successful dress rehearsal for the BVB women

The BVB women’s footballers’ training camp came to an end with an 8-0 (2-0) victory over TSV 1860 Munich on Sunday. The perfect conditions in the Kitzbühel Alps and the four friendly victories made for a positive conclusion.

The pre-season clash with the Lionesses has become something of a tradition. The third meeting took place on Grünwalder Straße in Munich. The BVB women, who play a division higher than 1860, dominated the pitch but too rarely created good goalscoring opportunities for themselves. The opener came when TSV goalkeeper Helene Pottendorfer scored an own goal. Danelle Tan made it 2-0 in first-half stoppage time following a lovely turn in the penalty area.

“We told the players at half-time that we should play the ball into feet, trust ourselves to go into one-on-one situations and move the ball about more quickly with fewer touches. The girls then implemented that very well,” said coach Thomas Sulewski, whose side went on to win 8-0 thanks to a Marie Grothe goal (63), a Mandy Reinhardt brace (64/67), a goal from Marjana Naceva (75), a Merle Greulich goal directly from a corner (83) and a Reinhardt penalty (85). “Mega week, mega conditions, lots of training, lots of regeneration. The team has grown closer together and we’ll go into the season very well-prepared,” said Sulewski, drawing a positive overall conclusion.

The second team also enjoyed a successful final rehearsal thanks to goals from Madita Sommer and Svenja Hörenbaum. Coach Ingo Kuhl gave a positive summary following the 2-1 win over Bezirksliga opponents FC Augsburg: “We worked a great deal on the pitch on match scenarios in order to have different options to win a match thanks to the enthusiasm for the game that they always exude. That was well-implemented in many spells against Augsburg too.”

The BVB women will kick off their Landesliga season away to SC Drolshagen at 13:00 CET on Sunday 27 August. That same day at 15:00 CET, the second team will be away to PSV Bork in the opening game of the Bezirksliga season.
