After the 1-1 draw against Paris Saint-Germain, Edin Terzic, Marco Reus, Gregor Kobel and Niklas Süle gave their take on an exciting and high-quality encounter. The match reactions.
Edin Terzic (at the press conference): “We’re very happy that we’ve managed to qualify for the knockout stages as first in the group. That’s an outstanding success for us. It gives us self-confidence, and it gives us hunger for more. We’ve beaten the likes of the semi-finalists from last year’s Champions League season. That shows what we’re capable of. We cannot influence whom we’re drawn against. Our preferred opponent is FC Augsburg. On Saturday, it will be a case of showing many things that we’ve shown in the last two matches on the pitch.”
Marco Reus (to DAZN): “A big compliment on us finishing the group in first place. It was a wild match, especially in the first half with many big chances. It could’ve gone in both directions. We found the spaces well, rotated well, drew opposing players away and brought Fülle into the game well. And we showed some good link-up play from time to time up until the final third, but there we lacked a bit of precision and the desire was missing a bit with our finishing. There were too many losses of the ball in midfield. Paris launched dangerous counter-attacks. If we’d stayed in front for longer, it would’ve perhaps gotten more difficult for PSG. It was a fair draw with many chances on both sides.”
Gregor Kobel (in the mixed zone): “It was a nice game, for the spectators too. Both teams brought good attacking power onto the pitch, even if not everything went the way that it should have. We can take a lot of self-confidence from the last two games. Finishing first in a group like this is not to be taken for granted. It’s really good fun right now. Whoever comes now: there is no good draw. We need to draw upon our last energy reserves in the final two league matches.”
Niklas Süle (to DAZN): “We wanted to perform courageously in front of our fans but knew that there would also be one-on-ones where we would have to chase. We pressed aggressively and forced Paris to play one or two long balls, which is a compliment for us because they are actually unbelievably comfortable passing the ball at the back. It wasn’t all top, but on the whole it was a very courageous performance.”
