Borussia Dortmund’s women’s handball team completed their European League campaign with a victory over Thüringer HC in the game for third place. The team were awarded bronze medals after the conclusion of the game.

Alina Grijseels: ”I am incredibly proud of the team and what we showed today. We wanted third place so badly. The team deserves to take home a medal. We played very well defensively, Yara was really outstanding and then we played smart offence towards the end. Our consistency was what made us do so well in the game.”

Dana Bleckmann: “I feel amazing, just indescribable. I don’t even know what to say. It’s a really awesome feeling and a reward for all the hard work this season. The disappointment after yesterday was huge, but we then made it our goal to put the game behind us as quickly as possible. We wanted to reward yesterday’s good performance in the game against Nykøbing with this bronze medal. Today we put the focus completely on this game and gave everything to finish in third place.”

Lena Hausherr: “We could hardly have asked for a better end to the tournament. It’s still unbelievable right now. After the game yesterday it was super tough and we didn’t have much time to process everything. But I think we did really well. We had so much energy in us today, and you could really feel the spirit in the team. In the last seconds you slowly realise that you’ve done it and then it’s just pure goosebumps. You just enjoy it. It’s the best thing when you stand in front of the fans and celebrate with them. It’s great that so many fans were there and gave us so much energy and support. That gives us a lot of strength and encouragement in the game.”

Lisa Antl: “I don’t really have anything in my head right now except to say that it’s really fantastic what we’ve done here and how we’ve fought as a team. We played our way to another level. It was so much fun to be on the court and enjoy the last 60 minutes in the European League. This morning I was still frustrated from yesterday, but I focused on this game and I really wanted to take this medal home.”
