Borussia Dortmund earned themselves three points with a brilliant turnaround before the break and a lot of work after the interval. The shot count of 20-10 and the xG of 3.1-1.0 also attest to this. Gladbach goalie Moritz Nicolas saved nine shots. The match facts.
Match-winner: Jamie Bynoe-Gittens put in a brilliant display with the goal to make it 3-2 and the assist to make it 2-2, and also showed his pace time and again. His top speed of 33.8 km/h was the second-highest of all the players involved, and his five shots on goal were the most of any player. After previously scoring three goals as a sub, he netted as a Bundesliga starter for the first time.
Lung-busting sprint: Donyell Malen was clocked at 34.0 km/h in the build-up to the goal that made it 4-2. The Dutchman scored his fourth goal of the season; he has never been so prolific in the first half of a campaign.
Initiator: Julian Brandt assisted Marcel Sabitzer’s goal and is his club’s top provider with five assists.
Indefatigable: Julian Ryerson completed the most sprints of any player (33) and, with a maximum speed of 32.4 km/h, also held his own against pacey opponents Nathan Ngoumou and Robin Hack.
Tough-tackling: Ramy Bensebaini won 83% of his challenges in the first half and by the time the 97 minutes were up, the figure was still an impressive 73% – the best of any Dortmund player.
Turnaround: The last time Borussia Dortmund won after trailing by two goals was in January 2022 in Frankfurt (3-2). This was the fifth time this season that BVB have taken points from a losing position (only Augsburg have done so once more).
Favourite foe: BVB have won each of their last 10 Bundesliga home games against Gladbach by a combined scoreline of 36-7. They do not have a longer ongoing winning streak on home turf against any other Bundesliga club.
Turbulent: Only the Matchday 1 clash between Augsburg and Mönchengladbach has produced more goals in a first half this season (then six in a 3-3 draw).
