Next Monday (17 July), the Borussia Dortmund women’s football team will kick off their preparations for the 2023/24 season at the BVB Evonik Football Academy. 

After the first and second teams start training together on Monday (17 May), a performance diagnostics session will be held in cooperation with the Technical University of Dortmund on Friday (21 July). This will involve various running and movement tests which will be used to gain insights for training management.

First team with day tournament and high-profile friendly matches

The first team’s first friendly test will take place on 23 July against the second team of Borussia Mönchengladbach. The fixture will kick off at 15:00 CET at the BVB Evonik Football Academy.

One week later, the Black & Yellows will travel to Alemannia Aachen (30 July) for a friendly match before coach Thomas Sulewski’s team travels to the island of Poel to take part in a one-day tournament on 5 August. There, BVB will face Hansa Rostock and BSG Chemie Leipzig, among others, in the group phase.

Before heading to the training camp in the Kitzbühel Alps, BVB will also play Eintracht Braunschweig (12 August) and the second team of 1. FC Köln (13 August). In the training camp in Austria (16 to 20 August), BVB will play against Wacker Innsbruck (18 August) and, on the return trip to Dortmund, against 1860 Munich (20 August).

The BVB women’s first competitive match of the season will be in the Westfalenpokal, when the team face Landesliga side SC Borchen. The match will be played in Dortmund, the schedule is still to be announced.

The newly-promoted Black & Yellows will play their first Landesliga fixture on 27 August. The opponent and venue have yet to be announced.

Second team with several friendlies in North Rhine-Westphalia

The second team’s first friendly match will be played in the first week of training. On 19 July, the Black & Yellows will play Kamener SC at 19:30 CET. Further friendlies will follow against Wuppertaler SV (23 July), SGS Essen III (30 July), MSV Duisburg II (6 August) and 1. FFC Bergisch Gladbach (13 August).

Coach Ingo Kuhl’s team will also travel to a five-day training camp in the Kitzbühel Alps on 16 August. There, the team will face the Brixental Allstars, a selection from the Brixen region, in their final warm-up before the start of the Bezirksliga season. The exact date has not yet been set.

The first league match for the newly promoted BVB team is also scheduled for 27 August. Again, the opponent and venue have not yet been announced.
