Borussia Dortmund’s women’s footballers have won 9-0 (6-0) away to PSV Bork in their last game of the Bezirksliga season. Marie Grothe reached the 30-goal mark, while Vanessa Kuhl amassed five scorer points and five Black & Yellows made their debut appearances.

With 24 games, 24 wins and 143-5 goals, the BVB women boast an impressive record in the Bezirksliga. The final game of the season at Bezirkssportanlage Bork was another demonstration of the champions’ superiority this term.

Captained by Luisa Bergmann, who led the team onto the pitch on her final appearance for the BVB women, the Borussia ladies proved to be in a goalscoring mood once again. Top striker Marie Grothe opened the floodgates in the 10th minute thanks to an assist from Ann-Katrin Lau. Vanessa Kuhl was involved in the second, third and fourth goals: Mandy Reinhardt slotted home Kuhl’s low cross for 2-0 (19) and Lau volleyed home from a corner (27), before Kuhl scored directly from a corner-kick herself for 4-0 (32). Grothe (41) and Mia Macarena Bedarf (45+2) took the tally to half a dozen before the interval. “We wanted to go all out once again in the final match, score a lot of goals and perform as a cohesive unit. We managed to do that in exemplary fashion throughout the 90 minutes,” praised coach Thomas Sulewski.

Marie Grothe took her goal tally for the season to 30 in the second period when she capitalised on the confusion that followed a corner-kick to notch her third goal of the day (53). BVB goalkeeper Sandra Schröer also got her chance to shine on the hour mark when she came out on top in a one-on-one battle with Bork striker Jule Kieslich.

Vanessa Kuhl then proved that she can also score goals from open play. She comfortably slotted home after going clean through on PSV goalie Anna-Lena Bensch (64) and then fired the ball inside the near post from range seven minutes later to make it 9-0. It proved to be the final goal – in part thanks to Schröer, who turned another dangerous shot from Kieslich over the crossbar.

Four more players who will no longer play for BVB next season – Denise Pörteners, Annika Billig, Allegra Gerres and Annika Herbig – came off the bench during the course of the second period. Hannah Goosmann, Annika Fälker and Stefanie Scheibe, who are also set to leave Borussia Dortmund, were absent from the game in Bork. “For me personally, it was important that all the girls who are leaving us could be on the pitch today. With a 9-0 win in the final round, we can proudly look back on a great season with our heads held high,” said Sulewski, reflecting on a pleasing finish to the season.
