A selection of Borussia Dortmund youth internationals representing Germany have reached the final of the U17 European Championship in Budapest – the Black & Yellow youngsters impressed in the 5-3 semi-final win over Poland.
A breath-taking game of football saw the spectators treated to spectacular goals and a dramatic run of events. The first chance of the game fell to BVB striker Paris Brunner, who was deployed on the left wing. The Black & Yellow youngster nodded a cross from club teammate Charles Herrmann just over the bar from close range. A dangerous Polish side took the lead in the 7th minute, but the young German side coached by Christian Wück struck back to make it 1-1 with a goal from Hoffenheim’s Max Moerstadt in the 22nd minute. However, the Poles soon pulled back in front after an excellent piece of combination play ended with the ball in the back of the net for 2-1.
But the Germany national team didn’t allow themselves to be knocked out of their rhythm and managed to up the tempo of their play in the second half. Paris Brunner made no mistake with his third chance of the game to draw the two sides level at 2-2. Not long afterwards, Charles Herrmann gave Germany their first lead of the game with a delightful goal to make it 3-2. Poland, for whom BVB central-defender Nico Adamczyk came on as a late substitute, scored a goal from nothing to make it 3-3. But then Forzan Quedraogo (Schalke) and Robert Ramsak (Bayern Munich) popped up with late goals to secure a place in the final. In addition to Brunner and Herrmann, Almugera Kabar was also in the starting line-up. Kjell Wätjen remained on the bench on this occasion.
“We are incredibly proud of the boys. I hope Germany realises that we have a generation coming up here that give everything for the national jersey out on the pitch,” explained Christian Wück and added: “We are completely deserving of a place in the final.” The team of Brunner, Kabar, Herrmann and Wätjen now have the chance to bring the European Championship title back to Germany for the first time since 2009 on Friday (20:00 CET, live on uefa.tv) against France.
