Bundesliga football club Borussia Dortmund and SPORTFIVE are prematurely extending their successful partnership until 30 June 2031. The global sports marketing agency has been supporting the eight-time German champions with all marketing-related matters such as sponsor acquisition, the expansion of partnerships and the marketing of the hospitality areas at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK since 1999.
BVB and SPORTFIVE have also set ambitious growth targets for national and international marketing in the coming years. In addition to the previous focal points, SPORTFIVE will take on further marketing mandates in the fields of women’s football and Esports.
“Due to the successful cooperation, we have decided to prematurely extend the partnership with SPORTFIVE and are convinced that we have found the best solution for Borussia Dortmund, also in view of the marketing challenges that lie ahead,” said Hans-Joachim Watzke, the Chief Executive Officer, who added: “We’re delighted that in SPORTFIVE, we will continue to have a strong and reliable partner by our side for the long term.”
As far as BVB’s international marketing is concerned, the main focus in the coming years will be on expanding partnerships in the target market of the USA, where the BVB team will head for their summer tour in July/August. The USA will also host the 2026 FIFA World Cup along with Canada and Mexico. “SPORTFIVE is already represented in the USA in several locations. SPORTFIVE’s global sales structures and many years of expertise will help us to forge ahead with our internationalisation themes,” declared BVB Managing Director Carsten Cramer.
“Borussia Dortmund are one of the leading football clubs in Europe and we are very proud that we have been able to accompany the club on their successful journey for almost 25 years now. In order to continue to support BVB on their path to growth in the years to come, we will invest significantly in personnel and infrastructure and expand our team by 10 to a total of 35 international and national staff members,” explained Hendrik Schiphorst, the Managing Director of SPORTFIVE Germany. “We would like to thank Hans-Joachim Watzke and Carsten Cramer for the good and trusting partnership and are really looking forward to the challenges we will face together.”
