Edin Terzic, Julian Brandt and Gregor Kobel spoke to DAZN after the 1-1 draw in the Ruhr derby at VfL Bochum.

Edin Terzic: “It was a very intense, very tight game, and yet we were able to create a series of chances. From our point of view there were at least three key incidents that were unfortunate for us. For the goal we conceded, Emre jumped into the air and wanted to win the header but was given a clear push from behind. And the two penalty incidents were very clear. It is for me perhaps a one-off situation to get so close to the championship, and then you get decisions like those. The only thing I’d have asked for: Look at it. That’s football. In the first half, we did well to bypass the one on one on the halfway line and got in behind. That amount of chances should have been enough to leave the pitch as winners.”

Julian Brandt: “I’m more frustrated about the things you can influence yourself and they were the chances, especially in the first half. Of course, there were two controversial incidents; that doesn’t make it any better. It was the chaos that VfL planned in this heated stadium. The fans make a right racket. We got a bit involved in this chaos in the second half. It was end to end. That didn’t help us. It might’ve been different with a little bit of luck, but I’m more frustrated about our own failings. There was a chance to put a bit of pressure on the south. We still have a few exciting weeks ahead of us. We won’t give up.”

Gregor Kobel: “We’re very disappointed. We knew that it would be in our own hands if we won all our games. We didn’t manage that today. It was a penalty in my opinion. That was not close to playing the ball. It’s crazy. He only got the man. Overall, there were a few 50/50 decisions that went against us.”
