Graeme Souness has pinpointed two key factors in Manchester United’s title challenge as they took another step forward with a win against Leicester.

Erik ten Hag’s men have been in fine form since returning from the World Cup and

The result for United leaves them just three points behind Manchester City, having now played the same number of matches.

Arsenal still hold a healthy lead over Ten Hag’s side though as they have a five-point lead, with a game in hand on top of that.

Souness thinks that a title challenge from Man United will be a big ask from this stage, but he hasn’t completely ruled them out of it.

Prior to Man United’s 3-0 victory over Leicester, he laid out the two key factors in their potential title challenge.

“It’s not impossible, I very much doubt it. I think several things would have to happen,” the pundit told Sky Sports.

“City and Arsenal would have to have an incredible collapse, they’d have to fall off a cliff. I don’t think that will happen.

“From United’s point of view for them to continue to win games they have to keep their main man fit and that’s Marcus Rashford. He isn’t finished. Keep him fit and they have a chance.

“But Arsenal and Man City, they’re not going to collapse, not in that manner.”

as his brace set them up for all three points against Leicester.

The 25-year-old has now scored 14 league goals and has 24 goals to his name across all competitions.

Rashford was in good spirits after United’s latest triumph, but he remained composed when discussing their title chances this season.

“It’s still early in the season, we’re fighting for a lot of different things and we have another big game in the week to hopefully go through to the next round of the Europa League and then a massive game for us [against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final].

“I don’t feel like slowing down and always want to improve.”

On the Premier League title race, he added: “We’re close but both teams in front of us are good teams and playing good football. We have to just focus on ourselves, do as well as we can and keep picking up points.”
