VfL Wolfsburg suffered a heavy 6-0 loss at Borussia Dortmund in the final game of Matchday 31. The Wolves defended high up the pitch in a bold start to the contest, but BVB were able to exploit the visitors’ high line and make the most of their goalscoring opportunities. Karim Adeyemi put Dortmund ahead in the 14th minute, before efforts from Sebastien Haller (28’) and Donyell Malen (37’) gave Borussia a 3-0 lead at the break.

Lady Luck was not on VfL’s side after the interval either, while BVB were comfortable and confident in possession and increased their advantage through Jude Bellingham nine minutes after the restart. Adeyemi scored his second of the game (59’) before missing a penalty five minutes later, but Bellingham’s struck again late on (86’) to complete the scoring.

Niko Kovac: “That was exactly what we didn’t want today. We played without conviction in our challenges and without bite, so we didn’t stand a chance. The 6-0 defeat was just what we deserved. My team will have to show their true colours in the coming weeks.”

Edin Terzic: “We’re obviously very pleased because we produced an absolutely brilliant performance from start to finish. We weren’t just able to score a lot of goals, we also scored nice goals. We kept a clean sheet as a team and still managed to spurn a couple of opportunities. It was enjoyable to watch the lads play football together – that makes it difficult for our opponents to beat us, particularly in our own stadium.”
