“We wanted to end on a high”

Yussuf Poulsen:

• “It’s always nice to win and we also managed to help Christo win the top scorer award. That was the main thing that we wanted to do today. We had a lot of chances to score but Schalke did what we expected of them. They fought really hard and gave their all. They had a couple of chances that they could have made a bit more from, but we took our chances to counter well and scored the goals. It was a really good atmosphere today; you have to credit the Schalke fans.

  We wanted to go into next week with a good feeling and obviously there are a few things that we need to do better. But if we win 4-2 next week as well, I’ll be pleased.“
   

Max Eberl:

• “Today was a good preparation for the cup final. But we’re here together with a side who has just suffered relegation; that’s never a nice feeling. So we have to celebrate ourselves but respectfully.

  We wanted a good performance today and that’s what we delivered. We had a good end to the season; we had some convincing wins, beat Bayern and signed off with a good victory today. It wasn’t an easy game.

  Christo has developed really well and has had a great season. He’s only played two thirds of the games and has still finished the season as top scorer. Of course he was the joint winner, but for me he’s the top scorer. Now he can crown his season with the second cup win.

  This is my first cup final, but I can already feel the excitement and anticipation. After a good end to the league season today, we can look forward to the cup now.”

Christopher Nkunku:

• “I’m really proud. It wasn’t my best season because I had a lot of injuries, but I’m pleased with my award and today’s win. I’m really proud of how we finished the season. The team deserves the trophy too. We’ve performed really well this season. The fans have been great and I really want to thank them too.

  Next week we have a chance to win and we have a week to prepare well. We’ll do everything we can to win the trophy.”
