RB Leipzig are DFB-Pokal champions again! Marco Rose’s side defended their title with a 2-0 vicotry over Eintracht Frankfurt.

The 74,667 spectators at the Olympiastadion in Berlin saw an intense game with aggression and high tempo from both teams right from the start. RB Leipzig started well and Dominik Szoboszlai played through Timo Werner, but goalkeeper Kevin Trapp saved his effort (4’). At the other end, Randal Kolo Muani hit the side netting in the 17th minute. The two sides defended well for the rest of the half, with the only other chance falling to Christopher Nkunku in the 41st minute, but his shot was deflected just wide of the post.

The second half was a calmer affair. Frankfurt had a couple of chances, but Willi Orbán cleared a square ball from Kolo Muani and Janis Blaswich denied Mario Götze twice (59’, 64’). The deadlock was finally broken just after the 70-minute mark. Some good work from Dani Olmo saw RBL win the ball high up the pitch and Christo got into the area before cutting onto his right foot and shooting, with his effort deflecting off a defender and into the back of the net (71’).

Leipzig managed the game well after taking the lead and were able to contain Frankfurt, before doubling the lead in the 85th minute. Some precise play inside the area saw the ball end up with Nkunku, who worked space before finding Szoboszlai free. Szobo took a touch before burying the ball into the bottom left corner to put the result beyond doubt. RB Leipzig defend their DFB-Pokal title!
