What a season!
Christo Nkunku scored twice in the final league game of the season against FC Schalke 04 to finish as the Bundesliga’s top goalscorer for 2022/23 on 16 goals. He shared the award with Werder’s Niclas Füllkrug.
The impressive thing is that Christo only played 25 times in the Bundesliga this season. He suffered a bad injury just before the World Cup and that kept him out for several weeks.
RBL’s first player to finish as the Bundesliga’s top goalscorer
The Frenchman is the first RBL player to finish a Bundesliga season as the league’s top goalscorer. Robert Lewandowski achieved this feat in each of the last five seasons before moving to FC Barcelona this summer.
Nkunku is now on 47 Bundesliga goals for the club after his brace against Schalke. He has only required 119 games for the game. Overall, the attacker has scored 69 goals for RB Leipzig.
Christo is the second RBL player ever to finish as a league’s top goalscorer. Daniel Frahn achieved this feat in 2011/12 and 2012/13 in the Regionalliga.
