TSG welcomed some special guests on the day of the home game against 1. FC Cologne: eight journalists from Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria and South Africa who are taking part in the so-called Bundesliga Student Journalist Training Programme run by the DFL and Deutsche Welle. Over a period of two years, the group has completed a series of training measures to improve their technical and media-specific skills in the field of sports reporting. From interview exercises to live reporting and lessons on sports journalism law, the students have been able to develop their expertise in key areas.

The highlight of the training for the group was a visit to TSG’s home game against 1. FC Cologne. During an interactive tour of the training centre, the delegation first gained exclusive insights into the beating heart of TSG Hoffenheim and learned about the future strategy “TSG is movement”  including its specific initiatives in Africa. The group then went on a private stadium tour and enjoyed a short Meet & Greet with director of football Alexander Rosen, before taking their seats in the press box. After the game, the group went straight to the mixed zone and the press conference, where head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo fielded questions from the young journalists.

The Bundesliga Student Journalist Training Programme was launched to support the development of journalism in Africa and to give young journalists the opportunity to work in live conditions in one of the world’s best sports leagues.
