Borussia bid farewell to Stindl, Bensebaini and Thuram

Before our Bundesliga home game against FC Augsburg on Saturday, we said farewell to three Foals in Laris Stindl, Ramy Bensebaini and Marcus Thuram.

The final day of a Bundesliga season is always a day of goodbyes. Lars Stindl is set to leave the club after eight years. This summer, the attacker will return home to his boyhood club, Karlruher SC, who play in Bundesliga 2. Stindl joined Borussia from Hannover 96 in the summer of 2015, and during his Borussia career he made 270 competitive appearances, scored 83 goals and registered 61 assists. He was made captain at the beginning of the 2016/17 season and has been one of the most reliable players of the past few years. “I always tried to stay as real as possible,” said Stindl. “I wanted to bring my way of communicating, my understanding of responsibility and a good attitude every day. It was a special honour to captain this club.”

Marcus Thuram, who signed for the Foals in the summer of 2019 from EA Guingamp, is also coming to the end of his time at Borussia. The Frenchman played 133 times for Gladbach, scoring 44 goals and getting 29 assists in the process. Whilst here at Gladbach, Thuram also received his first call up to the France national team. “I’ve personally had four fantastic years here. I arrived as a young player and have made a huge amount of progress,” commented Thuram. “It was brilliant to represent Borussia in the Champions League and to be called up for international duty through good performances for the club. I have a lot to thank this club for and I’ll never forget what it’s done for me.”

Like Thuram, Ramy Bensebaini has spent four years in Mönchengladbach and is set to leave at the end of the campaign. The left-back made 112 appearances for the Foals and contributed 25 goals and eight assists. “This club has really helped me to develop as a player. I played in the Europa League and the Champions League for the first time, and I’ve never scored so many goals per season as I have done here at Borussia,” said the Algeria international. “I also felt really loved by the fans, even when results didn’t go our way. I would personally like to thank the fans for their support over the past few years.” He himself knows that his relationship with the fans hasn’t changed since his imminent departure from the club was announced. “For my part, I can say that Borussia’s fantastic fans have a dear place in my heart,” added the winner of Gladbach’s Goal of the Year competition in 2022, which he won for his bicycle kick against Hoffenheim.
