#BMGFCA match reaction

Here is the match reaction to the Foals’ 2-0 win over FC Augsburg from Patrick Herrmann, Lars Stindl, Jonas Hofmann and head coaches Daniel Farke and Enrico Maaßen.

Jonas Hofmann: We wanted to end this season on a good note. It’s always important to finish a campaign well and we were able to do that thanks to a good point in Leverkusen last week and today’s win over Augsburg. We can’t be pleased with this season. Our home form wasn’t so bad, but on the road we’ve been poor. We were therefore only able to do enough to finish tenth. It was a great farewell for Lars Stindl. We’re going to miss him hugely, both from a footballing perspective and as a personality.

Patrick Herrmann: We started superbly with an early goal and played a fantastic first half in which we added a second. It got a bit easier for us after the red card, but we should have done more to score a third goal given our one-man advantage. In the end, it was a deserved 2-0 victory. It’s been a patchy season of highs and lows. Next season, we need to perform more consistently. Lars Stindl’s farewell was really emotional. It makes you think of what it’ll be like when you leave yourself. Hopefully there’s still some time before that.

Lars Stindl: It was a lovely goodbye. Of course, I’d like to have scored, but otherwise it was perfect. We won the game, and it was really emotional after the final whistle. It’s been one of the best days of my career, I’ll never forget it. When I was subbed off and all the fans rose to their feet, I really had to hold the tears back. I enjoyed every moment of what was a very emotionally charged day.

Head coach Daniel Farke: We could hardly have written a better script if we tried. It was a perfect finish to our season. We won the game, moved above Köln, added to our home record and gave the lads who are leaving the perfect farewell. I can only pay the team a huge compliment for that. We played an almost perfect game; we defended with intensity and made it really difficult for our opponents when they had possession. Both goals were beautifully worked. The second half was one we rather simply had to manage, and we lost a bit of tempo after the break, but overall, I’m pleased that we got another clean sheet.

Head coach Enrico Maaßen (FC Augsburg): It was a very difficult game for us. We conceded early on and never really found our way back into the game. We lacked a bit of cleverness today, and weren’t able to put any more pressure on after the first or second goal, or the red card. Mönchengladbach did well today, but from our side, we didn’t fill the spaces well enough. We were forced into a couple of personnel changes, and whilst that shouldn’t be an excuse, it’s somewhat of an explanation. All in all, we’re happy to be remaining in the Bundesliga, and thankful for Hoffenheim getting a result today. You more often than not deserve to be where you are in the league after 34 games.

Lars Stindl gives his final post-match interview for Borussia.
