Borussia Dortmund’s junior players Paris Brunner, Almugera Kabar, Charles Herrmann, Kjell Wätjen and Luke Rahmann have helped the Germany U17 national team book their tickets for the European Championship finals in Hungary (17 May to 2 June) at the qualification tournament in Türkiye.

The DFB team might have suffered a highly unfortunate 4-3 defeat against Spain in the final group game courtesy of a last-minute own goal, but they reached the final tournament as one of the best runners-up. As they had done in the 7-0 win over Finland – when they scored six of the seven goals – the Dortmund lads stood out again against Spain: Paris Brunner restored parity for the DFB youngsters on two occasions, while Almugera Kabar put them 3-2 ahead at one point. Brunner, Herrmann and Kabar were all included in DFB coach Christian Wück’s starting line-up, while Kjell Wätjen came off the bench in the 46th minute. Luke Rahman was an unused substitute.

BVB central defender Filippo Mane helped the Italy U19 national team qualify for the final tournament in Malta (3 to 16 June) thanks to a 2-2 draw with Belgium. The DFB team finished second behind Italy in the qualification tournament in Bremen. The side, which included Borussia players Nnamdi Collins and Tom Rothe, beat Slovenia by a 3-0 scoreline in their final group game. Collins and Rothe played the full 90 minutes.

An U16 national team featuring Borussia U16 players Anas Mahjoubi and Jonas Feddersen drew 1-1 with Italy in Pisa.

The Borussia U19s will be without their current internationals when they visit SC Verl in the Westfalenpokal quarter-finals on Wednesday (29 March, kick-off 19:00 CET).
