After putting in some top-notch performances to start off 2024, things took a turn for the worse for Werder Bremen and club captain Marco Friedl. The Austria international tore a syndesmosis ligament in his right ankle during a training session and joined the long list of injured SVW centre-backs. In an interview with WERDER.DE, Friedl spoke about his recovery and confidently looked ahead to making a return to team training.

Dawid Kownacki suffers injury

It did not look good in the match at Hannover 96, and now Werder’s fears have been confirmed. Dawid Kownacki picked up a hamstring injury and will be unavailable for the next few games.

Werder fall to a 3-1 defeat against Hannover 96

SV Werder Bremen were defeated 3-1 by Hannover 96 in their friendly fixture at the Heinz von Heiden Arena on Thursday afternoon. The hosts took the lead just prior to the break through Lars Gindorf (42’), which was doubled not long after by Muhammed Damar (47’). Although Werder’s U23 player Joel Imasuen was able to get one back for the Green-Whites (62’), Jannik Dehm put the game to bed for Hannover by netting their third in the closing stages of the game (82’).

The Green-Whites were in no way impressed with their performance in the friendly against Hannover 96 on Thursday afternoon. Nevertheless, the game did bring about some positives, such as the opportunity for a number of the players to get some minutes under their belts. The hosts found the net twice in the space of two minutes through Vertessen (50’) and Aaronson (52’), and while Weiser was able to get one back for Werder (63’), the Green-Whites regrettably had to travel back to Bremen empty-handed.
